Z107.7 NEWS MAKES ENDORSEMENTS FOR LOCAL ELECTED OFFICES

With some 33 candidates running for 15 open seats on local councils and boards, today, Z107.7 News makes our endorsements. These endorsements represent the views of the entire Z107.7 editorial board, not just the news director.
For Congress there was no question, local resident Paul Cook has done an exemplary job of representation and should be retained.
For State Assembly, we endorse Chad Mayes, he has more experience in the workings of Government and we think it is time for Mayes to move the next level. While Karalee Hargrove has campaigned well, we think she needs more time in public office.
For Yucca Valley Town Council, with a large field with widely varied politics and orientation, we are endorsing incumbent Merl Abel and challengers Rick Dennison and Jeff Drozd. After years on the traffic and Planning Commission, along with his stint on the Council, Abel understands the history and workings of Town government. Dennison has been active in his community for many years and Drozd brings fresh ideas coupled with experience as a Planning Commissioner.
For Twentynine Palms City Council, the entire editorial board agreed than Danny Mintz has excelled and deserves to stay in office. John Cole brings a long history of public service and a level-headed approach that would serve the city well. While we think Jim Harris has served well, we agreed that it is time for him to retire and bring new blood to the Council. Our consensus was that Adam Lunn should be that fresh energy.
For the Hi-Desert Water District, the District is embarking on the biggest project in its history with a new sewer system. Incumbents Sheldon Hough, Roger Mayes, and Dan Munsey have been there for all the planning stages and are best equipped to get the job finished.
For Morongo Unified School District, we agreed that Chris Proudfoot has more than earned re-election. We think challenger Dr. Cindy McVay would bring the most understanding of education with many years of both classroom and school administrative skills to the School Board.
For Joshua Basin Water District, we endorse Vic Fuller and Rebecca Unger for the full-term seats and Bob Johnson for the short-term seat. For hospital board, we think Paul Hoffman has had his chance and chose to resign rather than make hard choices. We are endorsing Marge Doyle and Dan McLure because of experience in the medical field, both patient care and administration.
