YUCCA VALLEY SEPTIC BAN DEADLINE EXTENDED BY THE STATE

In May 2011, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board set a deadline of five years—May 16, 2016—for when the town of Yucca Valley had to stop using septic systems. Due to various delays, the town will not be able to meet that deadline, although it has started the process of designing and building a sewer system. Managing editor Tami Roleff said the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors heard some good news about the deadline last night…
At last night’s meeting of the Hi-Desert Water District board of directors, the directors learned that the Water Quality Control Board has extended the deadline for septic prohibition until June 30, 2021. Jose Angel, the Control Board’s interim executive director, said the board made the changes because it doesn’t wasn’t to put people in non-compliance with the prohibition. The Control Board also combined the deadlines for Phases 2 and 3 into one, of December 31, 2025, and revised the boundaries for Phases 1, 2, and 3. The board also received deadlines for when construction on various parts of the waste water collection system need to begin and end. The assessments on Yucca Valley property owners will also be delayed to 2017. Water district customers can expect to receive information about the new deadlines and boundary changes at a later date.
