YUCCA VALLEY PLANNING COMMISSION DISCUSSES SIGNS, SAYS NO TO WIND AND SOLAR ENERGY

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission met in regular session last night. Managing Editor Tami Roleff said after a discussion on sign rules, they said “no” to wind and solar energy…

Saying that the public expects to see signs in a business district, and that signs are important for directing customers to businesses, the Yucca Valley Planning Commission tried to be business-friendly while it was discussing changes to the sign ordinance at its meeting last night. Vice Chair Vickie Bridenstine explained her thoughts on sign regulations. “The intent and purpose of this is to regulate the signs to promote business, because after all, the sales tax that’s generated by our businesses benefit the whole community, and they should allow the public to find what they’re looking for.” The commissioners also directed staff that they did NOT want to ban the sign twirlers, noting that it’s a source of jobs in the community. The Commission then moved on to wind and solar energy. Commissioner Jeff Drozd explained why the Planning Commission voted to prohibit commercial wind and solar farms in the Town limits. “The citizens of Yucca Valley have spoken loud and clear that they really don’t want wind and solar. Every time the issue comes up it’s definitely opposed by quite a few people, so I definitely think it’s really the right thing that Yucca Valley should do. It’s the moral thing.”
