YUCCA MESA HOME BURNS TO GROUND, FIREFIGHTER INJURED SATURDAY

A Yucca Mesa home burned to the ground, and a firefighter suffered minor injuries Saturday. According to County Fire Captain Bryan Hoverman, firefighters were alerted to the fire at 9:43 a.m. when a motorist stopped at the fire station on Aberdeen drive to tell them about smoke coming from a home about a half mile away, in the 3400 block of Paradise View Road. Firefighters from Yucca Mesa, Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree fire stations found more than half the single-family home fully involved with flames when they arrived. Hoverman said firefighters were hindered in fighting the fire due to the lack of water on site. He added that because of the triple-digit temperatures and the extreme heat from the fire, firefighters had to be rotated out of fighting the blaze, which meant that it took about 45 minutes to knock down the fire, and about three additional hours total to mop it up. One firefighter injured his back and was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
