YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS

The trails in the National Park are heavily used. Ranger Cathy Bell says teenagers can get paid for helping maintain them…

Baby, it’s hot outside! But that doesn’t stop the dedicated teenagers who work in Joshua Tree National Park for the Youth Conservation Corps, or YCC. Every summer, YCC hires teens from the Morongo Basin to perform important work in the park over a period of eight weeks. Did you see some of our hard-working crews out in the park this summer? This year, YCC projects included trail maintenance and construction, restoration of native plants, and developing videos.

Teens who participate in YCC learn job skills and get a taste of the many great career opportunities available in national parks and public lands management. The YCC program is open to youth between the ages of 15 and 18. While the 2015 YCC crews have just finished up their summer of service, teens who are interested in working next summer should make a note to watch for the application period next spring.
