YOUNG GIRL HURT IN YUCCA VALLEY CRASH SATURDAY EVENING

A young girl was airlifted to a hospital Saturday evening after a traffic collision in Yucca Valley. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Yost, Ricky Baine of Yucca Valley was driving a 2011 Volkswagen eastbound on Highway 62 at 6:42 p.m. when he turned north onto Hilton Avenue; Baine told investigators that his green arrow turned yellow as he made the turn. Elanora Wood, also of Yucca Valley, who was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi westbound on the highway at about 45 miles per hour, told deputies she had a green light at Hilton Avenue. The two cars crashed in the intersection. Yost said a 7-year-old girl, who was strapped in by a seatbelt in the backseat of Wood’s car, was bleeding from the mouth and was unconscious for a short time. County Fire Captain Jay Dimoff said the girl was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center. He added a 2-year-old boy, also in Wood’s car, was in a car seat and appeared uninjured. A passenger in Wood’s VW, Paul Maki, complained of pain to his ankle and was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center, as was the 2-year-old boy as a precaution.
