WINTER STORM BLAMED FOR MULTIPLE CRASHES, ROAD CLOSURES

The roads were a mess Wednesday, due to snow and black ice from Tuesday night’s winter storm that dropped up to 2 inches of snow in the region. A La Quinta man was killed Tuesday evening at Reche Road and Old Woman Springs Road. A big rig got stuck on the northbound side of 247 Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, causing the highway to be shut down until the early hours of Wednesday morning. A small white pick up truck went off the Yucca Grade on Highway 62 just north of Hoopa Trail about 8 a.m. Wednesday. Traffic was stopped eastbound as Morongo Valley fire fighters extricated the driver through the truck’s back windshield. He was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center with minor injuries. Crashes were also reported on 247 at Reche Road, Chaparral Road, and black ice at Pipes Canyon Road.
