WINNERS OF THE STUDENT ART SHOW AT THE 29 PALMS ART GALLERY

The winners have been announced for the 29 Palms Art Gallery’s student art show. The $500 Ada Bigler award, presented to a high school senior who shows outstanding talent and potential, when to Cheyene Hernandez of Yucca Valley High School for her painting, “Apple of My Eye.” Nic Hopton, another student at Yucca Valley High, won the $250 Copper Mountain College Scholarship prize for his painting, “The Trap House.” First place in painting went to Sydney Rieman for “Sunlight.” “The Golden Apple,” by Kamaljot Singh of Twentynine Palms High School, won first place in the photography category. Gabriella Romero of Yucca Valley High School won first place for her pastel drawing, “Flying Fireworks.” In the Other category, Christopher Falossi, an ICE West student, won first place for a limestone sculpture titled “Chuckwalla.” The judge was Cathy Allen of the Copper Mountain College art department. The show will remain on display at the gallery through February 22. The 29 Palms Art Gallery is open 12 to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Yucca Valley High School students won all four awards in the Painting category: Sydney Rieman won first place for a tempera painting “Sunlight”; Lily Naylor second place for her “Nightmares” watercolor; Emmie Partridge third place for “Crimson” salt and acrylic work; and Nic Hopton an honorable mention for “The Trap House” tempera painting.
Twentynine Palms High School students of Mr. Howes’ classes dominated the Photography category, with first place going to Kamaljot Singh for “The Golden Apple,” second place to River Smith for “Gentle Shadow,” and third place to Megan Pinilla for “Butterfly.”
In the Drawing category, three of four awards went to Yucca Valley High School students: Gabriella Romero first place for “Flying Fireworks” pastel, Matthew Carr second place for “Planet X” pencil drawing, and Arturo Reyes honorable mention for “Texture Lines” pen and ink. Third place went to Jessy Dickerson of Hope Academy for a charcoal titled “Young Tarzan.”
In the Other category, Christopher Falossi, an ICE West student, won first place for a limestone sculpture titled “Chuckwalla.” Second place went to Michael Yando for a “Self Portrait” digital work, and third place was awarded to Matthew Wiederhold for his print “Linkin Park”; both students of Ms. Morales at Hope Academy. Honorable mention was given to Markie Rauschenberg of Yucca Valley High School for a mixed media piece, “Bleu.”
