WEIGHT LIFTING SAFETY

Weight lifting can be a beneficial and engaging pastime.  ROP Broadcasting student Jacob Murphy has some tips for doing it safely…

Weight lifting safety is important so you don’t injure yourself. Please keep the tips in mind when you’re going out to lift or work out. Never hold your breath when you’re lifting. This can cause you to get lightheaded and to faint. Never lock you joints when you are lifting. Locked joints are put under a whole lot of stress, which could lead to injury. Always use collars when lifting heavy weight. Focus on controlling the weight. To get better results do lower weight and higher reps or you can do heavy weight but lower reps. You should always lift and lower the weight slowly. Always have a spotter just in case something goes wrong and you can’t lift the weight. Keep both hands equal on the bar so it doesn’t slant or anything. Never bend your back when lifting to prevent injuring yourself. Always bend your knees a little to keep stress off you back. Keep your toes lined up with your knees when you are working your legs. Always keep your work out space clean and keep the weight properly put away so you don’t trip and hurt yourself.
