WE REVIEW, “SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER” AT GROVES THEATER

The Groves Cabin Theater production of the Tennessee Williams classic “Suddenly Last Summer” opened last Saturday night. The play is an intense, dark drama filled with suspense and mystery. It’s the shocking story of the tragic death of a young poet. Reviewer Rebecca Havely attended and offers this review…
Donette Swain believably portrays an older, disabled woman angered by her son’s passing. She is ruthless in her attempts to silence her young niece, Catherine Holly, portrayed by Analisa Pilecki, whose story of the man’s passing is so extraordinary she has been incarcerated in a mental institution, thanks to Mrs. Venerable, who bribes a doctor played by Scott Cutler to administer a truth serum to young Catherine. Every detail is then wrung out of the horrified girl. The story and performance by Pilecki are so captivating the entire audience was on the edge of its collective seat. Her performance in this role is of the highest quality and shouldn’t be missed. The piece is seamlessly and thoughtfully directed by Abe Daniels. The set is charming and beautifully designed by Steve Pratt. The supporting cast includes, Vicki Montgomery, Joy Groves, Cyrus Short and Lauren Gentry. The seats in the intimate theater have been filled for the entire run of the production. However, you may want to be placed on the waiting list in case of cancelations and then cross your fingers in the hopes that you get a chance to see “Suddenly Last Summer.”
