A Victorville man was arrested in Landers late Thursday night following a high-speed chase that originated in Hesperia. According to a Sheriff’s press release, a Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop at 11:39 p.m. in the area of Eucalyptus Street and I Avenue in Hesperia. The driver, later identified as Michael Miller, 33, failed to yield, and fled up Bear Valley Road to Highway 18, and eventually to Highway 247 to Landers. During the pursuit, deputies say Miller reached speeds of 120 miles per hour and drove on the wrong side of the highway. A Sheriff’s helicopter and deputies from other Sheriff’s stations assisted in the pursuit. Deputies attempted unsuccessfully to stop Miller’s vehicle twice by using spike strips, but were eventually able to stop his vehicle by ramming it using a PIT maneuver about 12:30 a.m. near Songbird Lane and Old Woman Springs Road in Flamingo Heights. Miller and his passenger were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint and they were taken into custody without further incident. Michael Miller was arrested on suspicion of felony evading without regard to public safety and felony evading and driving on the wrong side of the roadway. He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000. In August, Michael Miller was arrested for investigation of felony evading and driving under the influence and was last in court on those charges last Monday.
