TWENTYNINE PALMS RESIDENTS ARRESTED FOR CHILD CRUELTY

A Twentynine Palms mother and her roommate were arrested Saturday morning for investigation of child cruelty. According to a Sheriff’s report, the woman, identified as Jennifer Landers, 28, brought her 2-year-old son to her parents’ home in Pioneertown Saturday morning. The boy’s grandparent noticed that the toddler had large bruises all over his back, legs, and head, and notified authorities. Landers told deputies that her roommate, Steven Kovach, 30, had been beating her child. After an investigation, Steven Kovach was arrested in the 6400 block of Mesquite Avenue in Twentynine Palms for felony child abuse, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000. The boy’s mother, Jennifer Landers, was also arrested at the same location for investigation of misdemeanor child cruelty, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $25,000.
