TWENTYNINE PALMS HISTORIC BUILDING DEEMED “STRUCTURE OF MERIT”

The old hospital on Adobe Road, now home to Faith in the Word Church, will be awarded the “Structure of Merit” by Mayor Joel Klink tonight. Reporter Rebecca Havely spoke with a member of the congregation about the upcoming ceremony…

Z107.7: Ms. Greenidge, can you tell us some of the history behind the building being honored?

Greenidge: It was the only hospital serving the entire Morongo Basin. It was built in 1947.

Z107.7: Tell me about the award it is receiving?

Greenidge: The Structure of Merit—that means it has significant historic value to the Morongo Basin as well as the city of Twentynine Palms.

Z107.7: The public is invited to attend?

Greenidge: We want everybody who has the time to come; it’s actually history for the whole entire community.

Z107.7: You say a Doctor William Inch built the hospital for his father’s practice.

Greenidge: His daughter—which is so great—is still living here in Twentynine Palms. She’s 70 years old and she’s going to attend and say a few words.

Z107.7: When is the event?

Greenidge: It’s Thurs at 6 p.m. The mayor is going to come to unveil the plaque. Councilman Wright, he will be attending also.

The “Structure of Merit” ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday July 16 at 6 p.m. The former hospital is now a church is located at 5792 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms.
