The Twentynine Palms City Council meets tonight to select its new mayor and mayor pro tem for the coming year. According to tradition, Council members ascend to those offices based on their standing in the last election, though the Council may deviate from that practice at will.
If tradition holds, current Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Mintz will become the new mayor and Councilman John E. Cole will become Mayor Pro Tem.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. with remarks by outgoing Mayor Joel Klink on what he sees as the state of the city.
As usual, it all takes place in the Council Chambers on Adobe Road.
