Fuller Center for Housing
Jeff Moritz, the president of the Fuller Center for Housing, explained that the Fuller Center focuses on renovating and building housing for people in need. He announced that the Center will be building a house from scratch in 2 1/2 days in November in Twentynine Palms, using donations of material and labor.
Rep. Paul Cook Federal Update
8th Congressional District Representative Paul Cook gave an overview of his work on the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Veterans Committees. He is concerned about military cutbacks in a time of new threats, questions the management by the Administration of the ISIL threat over the past year, and called for a change in the management culture in the Veterans Administration. Cook also talked about the tension between the role of dams and environmental concerns in relation to the ongoing water crisis.
Capt. Dale Mondary Update on Corwin-Lee case
Sheriff’s Captain and City Police Chief Dale Mondary extolled the cooperation of multiple agencies and volunteers in the search for Erin Corwin. He singled out the City Parks Department for its support in the use of Luckie Park as the command post for the search effort.
Consent Agenda Exceptions
Two items were pulled from the consent agenda, to be treated at a future meeting. Council member Cora Heiser wanted more time to review Visitor Center funding, and Jay Corbin asked staff to consider the use of compressed natural gas for a requested new truck.
