TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL IN BUSY SESSION TONIGHT

The July 23 meeting of the Twentynine Palms City Council starts with a closed session at 5:15 pm to discuss one anticipated case of litigation, real property acquisition, and a performance evaluation of the city attorney. During the 6 p.m. open session, a public hearing on the lighting and landscaping district status will be followed by several discussion items, including: the recent blocking of passage over a portion of Diamond Bar Road; reaffirmation of the City Council’s commitment to comply with the Brown Act; boundary expansion of Mojave Integrated Regional Water Management Plan; approval of the use of $247,500 in HUD grand funds toward National Park Drive; a presentation on economic development and tourism activities; and a discussion of a strategic planning workshop. Of interest among consent agenda items are: approval of the City’s contract with the Sheriff’s Department for the current fiscal year, of more than $2.9 million; approval of the Chamber of Commerce’s contract to continue running the Visitor Center; and disposition of the so-called “RDA dividend.”
