In celebration of its one-year anniversary, Tortoise Rock Casino in Twentynine Palms unveiled two eye-catching new sculptures Tuesday outside of the casino at the corner of Adobe Road and Baseline Road. The spectacular 8-foot-tall metal tortoises were created by Ricardo Breceda of Temecula. Breceda also created the sculptures of bighorn sheep and the gold miner and donkeys on National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms. The tortoises are eight feet tall, eight feet wide, 10- and 12-feet long, and weigh almost 300 pounds each; it took Breceda three months to design and create them. The unveiling was in conjunction with the casinoâs celebratory anniversary weekend, which kicked off last night with a free concert by the group Checkerâd Past.
