TORTOISE AVERSION TRAINING FOR DOGS OFFERED

In an effort to keep our desert tortoise population safer, aversion training for dogs will be offered by the Mojave Desert land Trust. Reporter Cassie Zimarik has details…

Most desert-dwelling dog owners have likely had their animals trained to avoid rattlesnakes. Tortoise aversion training is very similar to rattlesnake aversion training except your dog will be trained to avoid the endangered desert tortoise. This training is important to preventing unwanted accidents involving dogs and tortoises. Dog trainers Natural Solutions, Heidi Saunders (from Joshua Tree Tortoise Rescue), and Mojave Desert Land Trust Staff will host this event on Monday June 1st  from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mojave Desert Land Trust Headquarters: 60124 29 Palms Highway in Joshua Tree. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The cost is $75 per dog with a percentage going to the Trust as a donation. Contact Lesley Hughes as soon as possible to schedule a 15-20 minute time-slot for individual training by expert dog trainers. Payment methods will be provided upon registration. You can register by calling 760-366-5440 or by emailing the address in this story on z1077fm.com.
