THREE AREA THEATERS BRING HOME DESERT THEATRE LEAGUE AWARDS

Performers and directors at three Morongo Basin theaters brought home golden statues at Sunday night’s award ceremony presented by the Desert Theatre League. Leading the pack with four wins was the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s “Moon over Buffalo,” which won outstanding production of a comedy. Marge Doyle and Wendy Cohen, a multiple Desert Theatre League-award winner, won outstanding director for a comedy; Richie Sande won outstanding supporting actor; and Analisa Pilecki—who last year won outstanding lead actress in a musical—won top honors this year for outstanding supporting actress. Kathryn Ferguson won two awards for two productions at Theatre 29: outstanding musical director for “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” and outstanding costume design for “The Importance of Being Earnest.” And finally, but certainly not least, Trevor Carpenter, 12, a seventh grader at La Contenta Middle School, won the Bill Groves Award for Outstanding Juvenile Performance for his role in “On Golden Pond,” put on by the St. Joseph’s Players in Yucca Valley. Congratulations to all the winners.
