TAKE ONLY PHOTOS, LEAVE ONLY FOOTPRINTS IN JOSHUATREENATIONAL PARK

More than a million people visit Joshua Tree National Park each year. Park Ranger Pam Tripp explains why visitors are encouraged to take only photos and leave only footprints…

Joshua Tree National Park offers many different ways to enjoy the desert.  Amazing rock formations, unique desert plants and wildlife are many of the attractions that draw over a million people annually to the park.

In our quest to remember the experience, sometimes we want to take a memento home with us.  A special rock or a pretty flower, are both potential souvenirs. Imagine though, if every one of those million plus visitors took something home with them?  Eventually, we would not have the same park we enjoy today.

The national park staff strives to preserve and protect all the features of the park.  You can help us by remembering to:  “Take only photographs and Leave only footprints.” Our hope is that when your grandchildren visit the park, they will be able see what others have seen in the past and will continue to see far into the future.
