STOLEN CHECK ARREST

A Yucca Valley woman was arrested last week, after she tried to cash a check that had been reported stolen. According to a Sheriff’s report, the victim reported to his bank in February that his checks had been stolen. The victim subsequently died. About 2:20 p.m. Friday, March 27, Shaina Steavens, 29, went to a bank in the 6300 block of Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms to cash a $250 check written out to her after the check owner’s death. The bank teller called the Sheriff’s Department. During the investigation, Steavens could not confirm where she got the check or who allegedly gave it to her as payment for helping to file her taxes. Shaina Steavens was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, and released.
