SHERIFF HOMELESS OUTREACH AND PROACTIVE ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM

The Sheriff’s Department’s Homeless Outreach and Proactive Enforcement team tries to stop the revolving door of arrest and incarceration, following the release of inmates who have nowhere to go. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the HOPE team also works with the homeless to get them off the streets…
The Sheriff’s Department HOPE team works to connect the homeless—and soon-to-be-homeless—with social services that can help get and keep them off the streets. The HOPE team is comprised of four deputies, each who is responsible for an area of the county, and provides deputies and the homeless with resources, service providers, and points of contact. The ultimate goal is to help the homeless transition from homelessness, reduce the rate of crime related to homelessness, and reduce the costs associated with homeless-related crime.
