SCHOOL, TOWN, NEGOTIATE TO KEEP THE YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL OPEN

The School District and the Town of Yucca Valley are close to agreement on how to keep the swimming pool at Yucca Valley High School open. Reporter Chanda-Lyn Fraschetti has an update on the process…

Negotiations are under way to keep the Yucca Valley High School swimming pool open to the public. According to Assistant Superintendent Dave Price, a verbal agreement was made at a meeting last Thursday, between the Morongo Unified School District and the Town of Yucca Valley, to share the expenses. “The District will begin to split the costs with the Town of Yucca Valley to keep the pool open, both for public use in the summer time, and for a much broader use for our students at Yucca Valley High School.” The School District will be responsible for utilities, which includes gas, water, and electricity, as well as necessary staff during school events, while the Town of Yucca Valley will pay for pool maintenance and staff during public use. This decision will allow Yucca Valley High School to resume physical education classes and absorb approximately $6000-7000 per year, allowing the Yucca Valley Swim Team to use the pool for free. A financial workshop for the Morongo Unified School Board has been proposed for the week of June 17.
