PROTECT YOURSELF FROM BEING A VICTIM OF A SO CAL EDISON SCAM

Recently, some Morongo Basin residents were visited by men who claimed to be employees of Southern California Edison. They actually were Edison employees, but Managing Editor Tami Roleff has some safety tips to help you guard against imposters and potential scams…

Southern California Edison employees carry photo ID badges while on the job. Ask to see identification and ask the purpose of their visit. Be suspicious if someone shows up without an appointment asking to check your appliances, your home’s wiring, or any other electrical problem they claim may be inside your home. Residents will receive advance notice via a postcard or door hanger if SCE plans to perform scheduled work in an area that might affect service. (However, in emergency situations when repair work is needed, advance notice cannot always be provided.) SCE employees do not engage in door-to-door sales and will never demand payment in the field, nor will they ask customers for personal information or a copy of their bill. Call 800-655-4555 to report suspicious phone calls or visitors claiming to be with the utility. The call center operates 24/7.
