PIPE BOMB DETONATED BY SHERIFF’S BOMB SQUAD IN YUCCA VALLEY

The Sheriff’s bomb and arson squad blew up a pipe bomb in Yucca Valley Tuesday. According to a Sheriff’s press release, a 7-year-old girl found a suspicious device that looked like a pipe bomb in her back yard of the 7100 block of Barberry Avenue. The device was described as a copper pipe,1/2-inch in diameter, a few inches long, with wires attached to a model rocket launcher. The girl’s mother called the Sheriff’s Department at 11:21 a.m. When the bomb and arson squad arrived, they took it to a vacant field near the Little League fields and, per protocol, blew it up about 2 p.m. The explosion could be heard for miles in Yucca Valley. The Sheriff’s bomb and arson squad is investigating, and anyone with information should call Detective L. Stuart at 909-890-4840.
