PAINTNG OF JOSHUA BASIN WATER TANK START THIS WEEK

Members of the Chaparral Artists Guild have been working for more than two years to help high school art students paint the water tank at the Joshua Basin Water District office in Joshua Tree. The artists had encountered numerous obstacles and set-backs as they began what they believed to be a relatively simple project. On September 25, representatives from Chaparral Artists and the water district met with members of the Yucca Valley High School art club. Artist Shirley James explained how the image for the water tank will be traced onto velum, and using a grid pattern, will then be transferred on to the water tank. On Tuesday, October 7, the artists and their mentors will begin the preparing the tank for the painting. It’s expected that the painting will be completed by the end of the week, and a permacoat will be applied next week.
