ONE HOME LOST, EVACUATIONS LIFTED, LAKE FIRE OVER 30,000 ACRES

One home burned, as well as three outbuildings, were confirmed burned in the Lake Fire this weekend. The home and outbuildings, owned by Diane Best on Burns Canyon Road, burned Wednesday when the illegal drone flying in the area grounded all the firefighting aircraft with fire retardant and water. Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Landovazo said he received photos of the burned home from the Command Center in Big Bear, which he showed to Best about 2 p.m. Saturday, and she confirmed that it was her home that burned. As of Sunday evening, the Lake Fire is at 30,726 acres burned, and is 60 percent contained. All evacuations—including the Burns Canyon and Rimrock areas—have been lifted, and Pioneertown Road and Highway 38 have been reopened, although areas affected by the fire, including campgrounds and the Pacific Crest Trail, are still closed for recreational use. More than 2,250 personnel have been assigned to fight the fire, at a cost of $30 million. On Friday, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors unanimously ratified an emergency proclamation during an emergency meeting. The proclamation will enable the county to seek state and/or federal reimbursement for the cost of fighting the fire.

Very little smoke can be seen from PIoneertown from the Lake Fire Saturday.
