NEW MURAL CELBRATES CDPA 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Continuing the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act, a new mural will be dedicated in Twentynine Palms Saturday. Managing Editor Tami Roleff has your invitation……
Local artists Chuck Caplinger and Art Mortimer have been busy painting a new mural on the Old Schoolhouse museum in Twentynine Palms. The mural celebrates the 20th anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act of 1994, which enlarged and re-designated Joshua Tree National Monument as a national park. Caplinger and Mortimer designed the mural as a vintage postage stamp, that features a desert landscape with bighorn sheep in the center, surrounded by a bobcat, a desert tortoise, and Joshua trees. A dedication of the mural will be held Saturday, November 15, from 3 to 4 p.m. The Old Schoolhouse Museum is located on National Park Drive, near the Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters.
