NEW EXHIBIT AT HI-DESERT NATURE MUSEUM IS A CALIFORNIA FEAST

A new exhibit called “Seaweed, Salmon, and Manzanita Cider: A California Indian Feast” is now open at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum. The traveling exhibition includes historic and contemporary California Indian baskets and other artifacts used to hunt, gather, and process California Indian native foods; historic and contemporary photographs and film footage of California Indian peoples gathering, preparing, and enjoying traditional food; large format contemporary photographs of California Indian food resources; and interpretive panels. The exhibit also includes examples of preserved and processed California Indian foods such as jars of kippered salmon, dried manzanita berries, dried seaweed, and a variety of acorns.
