MOTORCYCLE RIDER INJURED IN TWENTYNINE PALMS CRASH MONDAY AFTERNOON

A motorcycle rider suffered a pretty severe wound to his leg after a collision with a car yesterday afternoon in Twentynine Palms. About 1:05, a man, identified only as a Marine, was riding his Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Adobe Road just south of the main gate of the Combat Center, when a Marine driving a white Dodge Charger attempted to make a U-turn from the number 2 (slow) lane. The motorcycle rider laid down his bike in an attempt to avoid crashing into the car, but hit the car behind the driver. Twentynine Palms fire fighters were called to extricate the rider who had been thrown under the car, but by the time they arrived, bystanders had pulled the motorcycle rider out from under the car, and he was sitting on the side of the road near the car. The motorcycle rider was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for treatment. The driver of the Dodge Charger, also a Marine, was uninjured. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
