MORONGO VALLEY CSD TO SEEK TAX TO KEEP FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Morongo Valley CSD Board met in regular session last night. Reporter Mike Lipsitz says the board heard they have to raise taxes in order to keep the fire department…
Last night in Morongo Valley, the Community Services District board directed General Manager Donna Munoz to draft a proposal for a revenue-generating voter initiative. The decision followed a report from the Fire Tax Committee, which made plain the need to come up with funds to pay for a new engine and maintain Fire Department operations. To do otherwise means certain takeover by County Fire, and even greater financial demands on the community. The ballot measure would go before voters in June. Outgoing 20-year CSD director Chuck Osborne offered some parting wisdom on the matter, commenting that “Morongo Valley has always had money problems, but that can be solved with a board that works together.” Osborne was presented a plaque expressing gratitude for his many years of service to the district.
