MORONGO VALLEY CSD LOOKS AT NEW TAX OF $350 PER PARCEL

The Morongo Valley CSD Board met last night. After reorganization the CSD decided to try to get a new tax of $350 per parcel approved by the voters. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was there and files this report…
At last night’s meeting of the Morongo Valley Community Services District board the mood was festive with certificates, awards and oaths of offices freely exchanged. Gayl Swarat was elected board president. Christina Brook continues service as second in command; Karen Lowe remains Finance Committee Chair, the newest board member Matthew Campos will serve as fire commissioner. The single, most important piece of business transacted last night was the board’s unanimous decision to move forward on a revenue-generating measure to go before local voters in June. A two-thirds vote in favor would be required in order to pass. The new tax would replace the present annual assessment for a flat total of $350 per parcel regardless of the any improvements made. Several members of the public spoke enthusiastically in favor of the measure.
