MORONGO BASIN MAC TO ANALYZE ENERGY CONSERVATION TOMORROW

The effort by San Bernardino County to deal with renewable energy projects in its General Plan is a work-in-progress, with public input meetings planned for months to come. But the product of another long-running effort in this area—the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP)—is expected to be released this week. Reporter Dan Stork says that the Morongo Basin MAC is gearing up to analyze it…
The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council Ad Hoc Committee on DRECP will meet this week, on Thursday. Topping the agenda is reading of a draft resolution recommending a framework for use by the County in evaluating and responding to the DRECP, whose release is expected very shortly. To prepare for the meeting, MAC Chairman Mike Lipsitz has distributed background information via email to many individuals who have shown interest in the subject. That information is mostly from the advocacy group Defenders of Wildlife, and covers fact sheets, talking points, and a 5-page list of acronyms! Supplementing that information is a 9-point summary of Defenders of Wildlife recommendations concerning the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan, plus a list of concerns and questions that came up in last week’s County-sponsored SPARC public meeting in Yucca Valley. The Ad Hoc Committee meets on Thursday, August 28 at 2 p.m. in the first floor conference room of Supervisor Ramos’ office in the County Government Building on Whitefeather Road in Joshua Tree.
