MORE NEW LAWS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1

One new law that took effect January 1 is good news for military families stationed in California. Military spouses and domestic partners who are licensed to practice their profession in other states will be able to get a 12-month temporary license to practice in California when their spouses are stationed here.
Drivers and passengers of off-road vehicles take note: helmets are now required for adults when the vehicle is being operated on public lands. Children are still required to wear helmets at all times.
People who have sexually explicit photos, videos, or recordings of themselves distributed without their consent can sue the person who intentionally or recklessly distributed them, for damages.
A judge can order that firearms be taken away from people who are found to be distraught and in an emotional state in which they may be a danger to themselves or others. The guns will be taken for three weeks, and the person will not be able to buy any other firearms during that period.
