MORE DETAILS ON MAJOR INJURY MOTORCYCLE CRASH FRIDAY

The California Highway Patrol has released the names of the three people involved in last Friday night’s head on collision on State Route 62 in Joshua Tree. Investigators say Rebecca Fletcher, 25, of Deale, Maryland, was riding the 2006 Suzuki sport bike in the eastbound left lane just east of Sunfair Road when she tried to pass traffic. She crossed the double yellow lines directly in front of Kristi M. Nunez, 25, of Hemet, driving westbound in a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Both drivers swerved in an attempt to avoid a crash, but Fletcher’s motorcycle collided into the right front of Nunez’s Corolla. Fletcher suffered major injuries and was taken by helicopter to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Neither Nunez nor her passenger, Matthew Niziol, 25, of Livonia, MI, were injured.
