High Desert residents continue to embrace water conservation as a way of life. The Mojave Water Agency and the Alliance for Water Awareness and Conservation have announced that a total of 6.5 million square-feet of turf has been removed since 2008 thanks to the Cash for Grass Program. This has resulted in a cumulative savings of 4,855 acre-feet of water that has helped drought-proof the High Desert region. The program currently offers 50 cents per square foot for turf removed. Residents interested in participating in the Cash for Grass program or desire more information on water conservation should contact their local water provider or call the Mojave Water Agency at (760) 946-7000.
