A military helicopter made an emergency landing in Landers Saturday night. According to Sergeant Derek Garvin of the Sheriff’s Department, the helo experienced transmission problems and landed near Bodick Road and Old Woman Springs Road about 3:40 Saturday afternoon after noticing a warning light that indicated potential foreign particles may be in the transmission. The pilots landed the aircraft safely on the ground with no injuries to personnel, and no damage to property. The Marines on board the helicopter called the Sheriff’s Department about 5 a.m. Sunday to notify them of the downed helicopter. The helicopter was identified as a USMC helicopter, the UH-1Y “Huey” Venom. Markings on the helicopter indicate it is from HMLA-267 (Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron) out of Camp Pendleton.
