MEMORIAL TO DEAD WOMAN STOLEN

A memorial for a Yucca Valley woman who died 2 ½ years ago was reported stolen Monday. In June 2012, Jennifer “Nikki” Alkire-Woolworth, 27, went for a walk from Yucca Valley to Morongo Valley with her small dog, Lucy, but never arrived at her destination. Her family suspects she may have had a seizure during the walk and died. Alkire and Lucy were both found dead alongside a desert trail 10 days later. Alkire’s family put up a 5 1/2-foot steel cross and metal bench at the site where her body was found near Samel Drive and Northridge Road in Morongo Valley. Her mother recently discovered that the cross, the bench, and a smaller metal cross had been dragged out of the ground, along with their cement footings, and family mementos left at the scene had been gathered up and placed nearby, as if the thieves were coming back later to get them. A photo of the cross and bench can be seen with this story at Z1077fm.com. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
