MARINES AND REACH-OUT COMBINE TO HELP NEIGHBORS

On an early and warm fall morning a large group of men from 1st Tank Battalion left the Marine Corp Air Ground Combat Center on a mission and scattered to the far corners of the Morongo Basin. In the fourth project of its kind between 1st Tank Battalion and Reach Out Morongo Basin, the Marines helped homeowners with yard work projects and home repairs the homeowners could no longer perform themselves. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more on Reach Out’s “neighbors helping neighbors” program…

About 30 Marines from 1st Tanks went to the homes of 10 senior and disabled residents throughout the Morongo Basin last month. The Marines pruned trees and bushes, cleared yards, and hauled more than 1,200 pounds of debris to the dump. Twentynine Palms resident Sue Kelly said she was grateful for the Marines’ help. She added that she was delighted to get to know the Marines better and was thankful to Reach Out Morongo Basin and executive director Robin Schlosser for coordinating the program, along with Chaplain Matthew Shepard and Religious Program Specialist 2 Jeffery Raynor. Kelly said they are all angels for what they do. Thanks also to the Twentynine Palms Officers Spouses Club for a grant that covered the cost of dump fees. To sign up for a future program, call Schlosser at Reach Out Morongo Basin at 760-361-1410.
