MAN FLEES AFTER TRAFFIC STOP, HELD ON WEAPONS CHARGES

A passenger who fled when Sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle for an obstructed rear license plate, was arrested early Sunday morning, accused of possessing a dangerous weapon. According to a Sheriff’s report, the car was stopped near Adobe Road and Baseline Road about 1 a.m. While the deputy was talking with the driver, the passenger, later identified as Richard Lane, 34, of Twentynine Palms, ran out of the vehicle, but he was caught by deputies a short distance away. The deputy discovered Richard Lane has an active felony arrest warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. During a search of Lane, deputies found an expandable baton in his rear pocket. Richard Lane was arrested on suspicion of possession of a baton, and on his no-bail arrest warrant, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with bail set at $25,000.
