GARY DAIGNEAULT OF Z107.7 NEWS WINS “GOLDEN MIKE” FOR EXCELLENCE

The Local News team here at Z107.7 received high honors from the Radio Television News Association (RTNA) of Southern California. At their 59th Annual Awards show Saturday night, News Director Gary Daigneault accepted the prestigious “Golden Mike” trophy for “Best Radio Newscast Writing” for small market radio stations in 2008. The Golden Mike Awards ceremony, saluting excellence in broadcast journalism, brings television and radio news broadcasters together in a long honored tradition. Judging is done by out-of-state and retired broadcast journalists and educators. “Golden Mikes” are awarded for excellence only. RTNA is a non-profit organization of professional broadcast journalists dedicated to protecting the public’s right-to-know and the first amendment rights of a free press, facilitating effective media coverage of important news events, promoting excellence in broadcast journalism, discussion of relevant issues, developing student journalism, and providing a valuable work tool through www.rtna.org. Also honored with a “Golden Mike” for lifetime achievement at the awards ceremony was CNN television personality Larry King and Los Angeles area Weather icon Dr. George Fishbeck. With our “Golden Mike” award, Z107.7 Local News” joins an exclusive club of broadcast journalists recognized within their own industry for excellence in news gathering, writing, and presentation. Z107.7 News has received high honors in the past, including “Best Small Market Newscast” and “Station of the year” from the Associated Press. Daigneault has won over 30 awards for breaking major stories, and scores of individual awards.
