LOCAL NAVAL PERSONNEL HELP AREA SENIORS

During the last weeks of August, Naval Chiefs and two new Chiefs-Select from the Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital aboard the Combat Center were out in force helping senior and disabled homeowners with yard work. With coordination from Reach Out Morongo Basin, the sailors stacked firewood, dug drainage ditches, pruned trees, raked leaves, painted eaves, and more, for nine residents in Landers, Johnson Valley, Twentynine Palms, and Yucca Valley. Over 4,500 pounds of yard debris was hauled to the dump, with a grant from the Officers Spouses Club covering the cost of dump fees. The homeowners appreciated the help and the kindness of the volunteer workers who wanted to give back to the community. Reach Out Morongo Basin is scheduling more projects for volunteers to help spruce up the homes and yards of seniors in September and October.
