LIGHTNING STRIKES CAUSE THREE FIRES IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

Yesterday’s thunderstorms kept Twentynine Palms firefighters extra busy. Lightning strikes hit a group of three palm trees at 3:30 p.m. in the 72000 block of Granite Avenue, which caused them to instantly burst into a raging ball of flames. Then, at 5:42, another tree near Indian Trail and Morongo Road was struck by lightning. The burning tree also caused rubbish on the ground to catch on fire. And then at 9:10 p.m., a power pole in the 6500 block of Wilshire was hit by lightning. And in between all these calls, the Twentynine Palms firefighters are getting ready for their pancake breakfast Saturday morning. Starting at 6 a.m. and going until 10, the firefighters expect to feed pancakes, eggs, and sausage to about 600 people at the fire station on Adobe Road.
