One of the major off-road events in the country, “The King of the Hammers,” will be held in the nearby Johnson Valley off-road area. “Hammertown,” the temporary off-road village, opens 9 a.m. Friday, January 29, and closes 10 p.m. Sunday, February 7, with the opening race for the 10th running of the King of the Hammers desert race and rock crawl starts January 31, and the headline race on Friday, February 5. Races are held at the Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley. As of the beginning of January, more than 270 teams have signed up this year to race and rock crawl in public lands. It’s not too late to register for the races if you have the right equipment and the money for entrance fees. For more information, see a link in this story at z1077fm.com.
