JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK HIKER RESCUED AFTER GETTING WEDGED INTO ROCKS

A hiker from the Los Angeles area was rescued Sunday in Joshua Tree National Park after he became wedged between rocks. According to Park spokeswoman Jennie Albrinck, shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, park rangers received a call that a 37-year-old man was scrambling on some rocks in the Quail Springs picnic area when he slipped and became wedged between two boulders. Park rangers and the Joshua Tree Search and Rescue team were called for help. JOSAR volunteers were able to attach a rope to the man, whose name was not released, and lower him to the ground from the rocks. The man was freed about 3:20 Sunday afternoon. Albrinck reminds park visitors to use caution when hiking and climbing and scrambling around rocks, and to always carry food and water with them.
