JOSHUA BASIN WATER HOLDS HEARING ON FEE FOR INACTIVE METERS TONIGHT

The Joshua Basin Water District will hold a hearing on charging fees for inactive meters tonight. Reporter Mike Lipsitz takes a look at the water district’s agenda…
At tonight’s 7 p.m. meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District, the board will hold a public hearing on District plans to impose a monthly fee on inactive meters. Some 1,200 meters currently fall under that designation, but every account would be subject to the fee any time the account is shut off or during a transfer. If approved, revenue generated would go toward recharge water, pipeline replacement and other capital improvements, and to pay down loans associated with chromium-6 treatment. Tonight’s hearing will precede committee, staff and director’s reports. It all takes place at district offices on Chollita Road in Joshua Tree.
