JOSHUA BASIN WATER CONSIDERS TWO “WILL SERVE” LETTERS TONIGHT

The Joshua Basin Water District Board will meet in regular session tonight. Reporter Mike Lipsitz says, among items of interest, is the consideration of two controversial “will-serve” letters…
At tonight’s 7 p.m. meeting of the Joshua Basin Water District board, directors will consider approval of a “conditional will-serve letter” for the planned 248-unit Altamira housing development in Joshua Tree. If approved, such a move would reverse a prior decision that put a freeze on granting any new will-serve letters as long as the district is operating under emergency water regulations. And in a related item, directors must decide on a district response to a request for a will-serve letter from NextEra Energy. NextEra plans an industrial scale solar plant at the site of the old Joshua Tree Airport. Those items and others will precede staff and director’s reports. Tonight’s meeting takes place at District offices on Chollita Road in Joshua Tree.
