The Hwy 62 Art Tours happens the last two weekends in October when some 8,000 visitors are expected to visit the Basin for self-guided tours of more than 200 sites. Assignment reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us about some of the many sponsored events happening in conjunction with this year’s Art Tours…

New this year is the Yart Party both weekends from 10 to 4 p.m. at Park Ave and the highway in Joshua Tree. It’s a festival of continuous entertainment, food and drink, art and folk crafts for sale, and general information.  Make time the weekend of October 19 and 20 for the Gourd Festival at the Yucca Valley Community Center and for Pioneer Days that same weekend in Twentynine Palms. The legendary closing party is a potluck masquerade the evening of October 27 at Furst World Studio on Desert Shadows Road near the Joshua Tree entrance to the National Park.
