HOT DOG CALL LEADS TO ARREST FOR HEROIN POSSESSION

Two people were arrested Tuesday evening after heroin was found in their possession. According to a Sheriff’s report, a resident called at 6:10 p.m. to report that a dog had been locked in a vehicle parked at the Park-n-Ride at Kickapoo and Highway 62 in Yucca Valley. The caller said there was no water inside the vehicle and none of the windows were open. A deputy responded and found that Matthew Thorne, 22, Julie Vaniman, 26, and the dog had been living in the car at the Park-n-Ride. The dog was OK, but the deputy found that Thorne and Vaniman had heroin in their possession, and Thorne had warrants for his arrest on previous drug charges. Matthew Thorne was booked at the Morongo Basin jail for possession of a controlled substance and for his warrants, with his bail set at $50,000. Julie Vaniman was cited and released. The dog was given to a relative for safe keeping.
