HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team beat University Prep of Victorville last night in the first round of the Hesperia Christian Holiday Classic tournament by the score of 57-34. Coach Jess Geeson said sophomore Taylor Spitz led the team with 19 points. Senior Ashley Priest added 17 points, and freshman Savannah Beasley knocked in seven points. The team travels to the tournament again today for a 4:30 p.m. game against Apple Valley.

The Twentynine Palms High School Girls’ Varsity basketball team lost in the semifinals of the Rancho Verde Tournament Wednesday to Martin Luther King, 48 to 40, in a hard-fought game. Coach Timothy Stanford said Tatiyanna Mackall had an outstanding game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Nokomis Cabrera had nine points and seven rebounds.

The Twentynine Palms High School varsity boys soccer team lost to West Shores last night, 1-4. Coach Nathan Niles said freshman Rhyen Smith scored the lone goal in the first half to even the score 1-1. Junior Jonathan Poore scored soon thereafter on a header, but it was called offsides on a very controversial call. Record is now 0-3.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team hosted their first home game of the season against Silver Valley High School. Almost everyone got on the score sheet as the Lady Trojans came away with the victory, 16-0. Coach Scott Phillips said sophomore Alexia Missett led the way with three goals and seven assists.

Freshman Jacqueline Bolha: two goals.
Freshman Amanda Whiting: two goals.
Senior Jennifer Luersen: one goal.
Senior Kayla Tsuhako: one goal.
Freshman Maria Diaz: one goal.
Freshman Kiersten King: one goal.
Freshman Dasani Rolle: one goal.
Freshman Savannah Romero: one goal.
Freshman Liana Jimenez: two assists.
Sophomore Julijana Soares: one assist.
Junior Nikole Cody: Recorded the shutout as goalie and scored a goal.

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan wrestling team is now 1–0 in De Anza League competition after bouncing the Bears of Big Bear 48-33 Wednesday in Big Bear. Brandon Whitbread said the Trojans were led by victories by Colton Grey, Trevor Scott, Andrew Reyes, Anthony Espinoza, Kevin Spurbeck, Christian Oliver, Isaac Arismendiz, and Albert Neville. The Trojan junior varsity team also won, sweeping all their matches against Big Bear opponents.
